UNDER FIRE: Democrats Question Trump’s Inconsistent Justifications For War With Iran

As US and Israel fighter jets continue raining missiles across Iran owing to a war the two leaders Trump and Natenyahu initiated against the Iranian regime last Saturday, Trump is facing the heat back home to convince the Congress about the war.

Several bosses from Trump’s administration led Secretary of State Marco Rubio briefed the Congress on the war in Iran that has paralyzed the entire middle East with Freights grounded and oil supply fears after Iran closed the Strait Of Hormuz a passage for several oil tankers headed to different destinations across the world.

Much as several Republicans agree with Trump’s justifications for a war with Iran, Democrats largely disagree because of the inconsistencies by the Trump administration on the exact reasons.

According to several Democrat Senators, Trump is not being truthful with no convincing reasons for a war with Iran even when negotiations were still ongoing with the Iranians.

As Trump insists he felt Iran would attack America first after the collapse of the last round of negotiations in Geneva mediated by Oman, Democrats believe this is not convincing.

Prior to the attacks, it was about Iran’s nuclear program, then to it’s Missiles which Trump said were a threat to the State of Israeli and American interests in the region.

When the war started, Trump whose operated commenced with the killing of Iran’s long serving Supreme Ayatollah Ali Khamenei alongside several of his family members from his office in Tehran, Trump now changed the narrative to regime change which seems far fetched.

Virginia’s Senator Mark Warner says there was no imminent threat to the United States by the Iranians. There was a threat to Israel and be says if America equates a threat to Israel as an imminent threat to America then Americans are in an unchartered territory.

Warner further says the goals for the war in Iran change every time and again. A week ago it was about Iranian nuclear capacity, a few days later it was about taking out Iran’s ballistic missiles, then later Trump changed it to regime change and now it’s about sinking Iran’s fleet.

Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer also disagreed with Trump’s inconsistent justifications saying this raises questions.

“I left the intelligence briefing more concerned than reassured. If the case for war were strong, it would be consistent. Instead, the rationales change by the hour.” “Regime change, nuclear weapons, missiles, defense. Preemptive. Which is it? When the justification keeps shifting, a strategy is missing. There is no strategy.”- says Schumer.

The story continues with several democrats disagreeing with the Trump administration. Senator Chris Van Hollen,

Today, Congress was finally briefed on Trump’s war of choice in Iran.

Even behind closed doors, they couldn’t get their story straight.

But one thing is clear: they don’t have a clue what the end game is, and it sure as hell isn’t making America safer. pic.twitter.com/8foSSDwNKT

The UN nuclear watchdog on the other hand insists there’s no plan and program and evidence to show that Iran is building nuclear weapons. Speaking to journalists in Vienna two days ago, the IUEA boss Rafael Grossi said.

“We don’t see a structured program to manufacture nuclear weapons [in Iran]. So that is the assessment.”- says Grossi.

US Democrats say Trump’s case for attacking Iran is falling short. A White House briefing failed to win over many in Congress. The US Secretary of State insists the strikes were justified, while Marco Rubio says the goal is to cripple Iran’s missiles and destroy its navy. pic.twitter.com/duXeA8I1xK
