Leila Katusiime, a former lawyer at NDA, risks arrest after it came to the IGG’s attention, through whistle blower info, that her written directive was ignored and the NDA former board members organized a secretive ceremony at four points hotel in Kololo and defiantly swore themselves in. The IGG got angry on realizing that even after several written reminders directing a halt, the NDA outgoing board members went ahead to have an illegal swearing in ceremony and inauguration on Monday at the Kololo hotel. The IGG has been asked by a whistle blower to expand on the ongoing investigations to…
Former Mbarara MP Medard Bitekyerezo has refused to accept the fact that his tenure as Uganda national drug authority NDA chairman ended on 20th February when his contract expired, along with that of the other 19 members of the board. He has for instance continued holding on to the NDA vehicle, a double cabin, which the Authority Asiimwe Dandasi continues to use to deliver stuff to the boss’ farm in Rukungiri. Through this same driver, a request has been made to a powerful general in the Ugandan security to provide personal security to the former NDA chairman Bitekyerezi, just in…
In her latest letter, dated Monday 2nd March, the IGG makes it clear that former Mbarara MP Medard Bitekyerezo is no longer the board chairman of National Drug Authority (NDA) yet the cantankerous former legislator has continued convening controversial meetings holding himself out to be exercising NDA powers, which he doesn’t have anymore. His contract as board chairman ended on 20th February and it hasn’t yet been renewed effectively. His purported reappointment to serve for another three years was put in jeopardy on 26th February when the IGG exercised her powers under article 230 of the constitution and directed the…
The Ugandan judiciary on Monday indifferently disregarded a written directive by the country’s inspector general of government (IGG) by deploying a senior magistrate to go and swear in the new board for Uganda national drug authority. In her 26th February letter addressed to the NDA top management, the IGG, as mandated under article 230 of the constitution, directed that the swearing in of the reappointed board members be HALTED until her investigations are completed. The IGG had weeks earlier received a complaint that the board members especially board chairman Medard Bitekyerezo and the dental association representative Dr. Muhammed Mbabali had…
In Uganda, things aren’t good at all following leaked information showing that several directors and Authority members of Uganda national drug authority (NDA) are on the verge of being arrested over willful refusal to obey lawful orders and directives issued by the country’s inspector general of government-IGG. The looming arrest follows the obstinate decision of the top leaders at NDA to insist on going ahead with the 9am newly reappointed board members’ inauguration ceremony on Monday, in total disobedience to the written directive by the country’s inspector of government (IGG) directing the halting of the inauguration. This is something the…
Flights across the Middle East were being cancelled on Saturday as several countries slammed their airspace shut after the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran. Iran, Iraq, Israel, Syria, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates all announced at least partial closures of their skies in the hours after smoke began rising over Tehran and Iran began retaliatory attacks in the region. Iranian missiles hit capital cities around the wealthy Gulf region, killing at least one, as witnesses reported seeing warplanes and projectiles streaking through the skies. Carriers including Air France, Air India, Turkish Airlines, Norwegian, Air Algérie and…
A power sector storm is brewing in Uganda as internal conflicts at the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) intersect with national energy supply challenges, threatening to further destabilize an already fragile economic lifeline. According to insiders, senior staff at ERA allege that Chief Executive Officer Eng. Ziria Tibalwa Waako is attempting to extend her tenure beyond statutory limits, igniting accusations of governance rot, board capture and institutional paralysis. The report claims that Waako, whose second term expires in March 2027, is lobbying for a third term or a strategic placement within another state energy entity — a move critics say smacks…
There is a recording. Eleven minutes long. Passed in hushed circles through WhatsApp groups where Kenya’s doctors are the members. In it, an official of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council, the very body charged with protecting Kenyans from incompetent and dangerous doctors, can be heard negotiating the price of impunity. The recording has been in existence for close to three years. It was shared with the KMPDC’s own leadership. The police were never called. No charges were filed. The man on the tape kept his job. That single audio clip has now detonated a scandal that is threatening…
Beyond the clouts, the video endorsements by different legislators especially the new comers making rounds on social media and the rushed CEC resolution backing Speaker Anita Among and Deputy Speaker Tayebwa’s to continue with their roles in the 12th parliament amidst protests from several CEC and party members like Dr. Chris Baryomunsi and several ministers, Anita Among doesn’t deserve another term at parliamentary avenue as Speaker. Just like Norbert Mao said that the death former Speaker Jacob Oulanyah brought Uganda an accidental speaker, the woman from Bukedea has a lot that makes her the worst Speaker Uganda has had in…
