Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has evacuated 43 students from Iran to Türkiye as the escalating conflict between Iran and the United States and Israel continues, a top government official said here. The students were transported by road from Tehran to Istanbul on Saturday and are currently awaiting repatriation to the East African country, John Mulimba, Uganda’s minister of state for foreign affairs in charge of regional cooperation, told reporters late Monday. “We have a number of students who are in Iran pursuing different studies. Some were in Tehran, the capital city, which is actually the center of the conflict.…
Since losing his Mbarara MP seat in 2016, Dr. Medard Bitekyerezo never bothered seeking reelection. This was so because he began doing very well as soon as he became the chairman for Uganda national drug authority in 2017. Former speaker of Uganda national assembly Rebecca Kadaga helped him lobby to get that job because he had chaired the assembly’s committee on health. He realized in the 9 years he headed UNDA that life here was much better than the hassles of being a struggling legislator to be urinated upon by voters. He has been able to have development projects as…
This week on Monday, the Uganda national drug authority public relations manager Abiaz Rwamiri ranted on twitter accusing new vision editors of being lazy because of the story they reported showing that the IGG had halted the swearing in of the reappointed board members. He accused the government newspaper managers of unseriousness, while claiming the IGG hadn’t halted the function which was meant to take place on Monday at a hotel in Kampala in Kololo. Abiaz was making all this argument at the time when the IGG letter stopping the swearing in function was everywhere on social media and after…
A whistle blower has petitioned the IGG demanding for action to force the former Uganda national drug authority UNDA chairman Dr. Medard Bitekyerezo to surrender and bring back the organization’s double cabin reg no UA009AL, which is white in color. It had been assigned to him in his capacity as head of UNDA but he hasn’t been in a hurry to bring it back after his term ended on 20th Feb after holding the position for 9 years, since 2017. The whistle blower says that the driver Dandasi Asiimwe, an employee of UNDA, has continued doing Dr. Medard’s errands including…
The National Youth Service (NYS) has announced a new recruitment drive in the country, with over 700 job vacancies for young Kenyans. According to a notice issued on March 3, the agency is seeking to hire 250 cadet officers and 500 private officers. This could be a lifeline for hundreds of unemployed youth in the country. The agency announced that it is seeking to hire degree holders in professional fields to become cadet officers. These include engineers, accountants, auditors, supply chain officers, ICT officers, clinical officers, laboratory technologists, project management officers, economists, marketing officers, corporate communication officers, agricultural and veterinary officers,…
The embattled Uganda national drug authority chairman Dr. Medard Bitekyerezo on Monday tried to defy the IGG of Uganda and go ahead with the swearing in function for the controversially reappointed board members. However, his disobedience flopped and didn’t take him far when it became clear that several board members weren’t prepared to take such a risk. They risked being arrested by the IGG for disobeying lawful orders the way it one time happened on the Kyambogo university board members. The UNDA board has 20 members but only a few turned up with others staying away having realized that Dr.…
The global energy market is currently facing a period of intense volatility as geopolitical instability in the Middle East reaches a critical tipping point. Leading to an unprecedented surge in global oil prices. Reports of escalating tensions involving Iran have sent immediate shockwaves through international oil benchmarks, leaving analysts concerned about long-term supply security. Investors and global trade monitors are watching the situation with high anxiety, as any disruption in this region has a direct impact on the cost of living worldwide. The immediate reaction in crude futures suggests that the market is already pricing in a significant “risk premium” due…
While the 2027 general elections remain a year away, the race for Webuye West is already being defined by more than just campaign posters. For businessman and parliamentary hopeful Lendrix Waswa, the strategy for transformation begins not on a podium, but in the classroom. Over the weekend at Sirisia Bok Primary School, Waswa moved beyond political rhetoric to tangible action, overseeing the distribution of school uniforms and essentials to over 5,000 learners. The initiative specifically targets Grade 1 through Grade 6, a demographic Waswa identifies as the “vulnerability gap” in the current education system. Waswa, who rose from a humble…
World Health Organization recently, in writing, raised a red flag about the governance loopholes at National Drug Authority, which in Uganda, is charged with regulating the manufacturing and importation of drugs and all medicines into the country. The WHO was concerned with the obvious conflict among some top leaders of the organization, which is the very same thing which the inspector general of government detectives, supervised by deputy IGG Ann Muhairwe, have gratefully started investigating. The WHO was prompted by an earlier incident which involved technical staff at UNDA being put between a rock and hard place when they had…
